The Mental Benefits Of Spring Cleaning

Lately, I’ve been feeling like I need to just get rid of stuff and yes I’m calling it stuff because that’s exactly what it is. This is the time of year that most people talk about spring cleaning and you see many videos on YouTube talking about spring cleaning your clothes, dishes, home and even your life. Spring cleaning is something that you should do more than once a year, but most of us, myself included, only really like about it around this time of year.

There are a lot of benefits to spring cleaning, a lot of things that I haven’t seen many people talk about. So I’m here to let y’all know some of the mental benefits of spring cleaning.

  1. A Fresh Start.
There is something very relaxing to knowing that you are declaring and getting rid things that no longer gave you any sort of benefits. If you’ve just gotten out of a relationship and you just haven’t brought yourself to get rid of stuff that may remind you of the other person, this is a great time to get rid of these items. This can go for anything, but getting rid of these things will make it feel like a fresh start.
  2. Clarity.
Take a moment and relive the moment that you bought this, then take a moment and remember when the last time you even used it. There is a clarity in remember why and when at the moment. Decluttering can cause you to step back and realize what is important. Clarity is hard to come by sometimes but when cleaning out your life or stuff, you can find closure in the thing you may not have had in prior times.
  3. Openness.
This sounds like a “no shit” one, but take a moment to think about how it feels when you’ve cleaned out your closet. Now you can move your clothes around again, you can see what you actually have, you can now recognize that maybe you had too much. Spring cleaning can really cause you to realize how open you truly can be, in a mental sense and also in the physical sense.

Have you started your spring cleaning, yet?

**By the way, sorry about missing the past few days, I will be explaining in a video and a blog post in a few days.**

I love to clean and I love to get rid of things that I don’t need. I agree that spring cleaning has mental benefits. I have found a lot of cleaning does bring fresh starts and clarity. When things get messy or cluttered, I know I can’t think very well. When I clear things out, I’m able to think better and breathe better.

Yes! I absolutely love a clean home!

Great Reminder…and I like the ‘no shit’ comment 😉 …it’s true and it really is important to feel the expansiveness of spring cleaning

    • Megan Anne ❄️

      Couldn’t have agreed more! 😉

  • Danielle Christine

This is a great reminder! We all need to “clean” every now and again…mentally and literally!

    • Megan Anne ❄️

I think everyone knows that it needs to get done but we like to put it off because no one really likes to clean!

  • Erin Rose Maycroft

Yes!! Spring cleaning is just so therapeutic. I notice when I’m feeling super overwhelmed, if I take the time to clean, organize, and purge at home, my mental status is immediately better.

    • Megan Anne ❄️

Yes! I find that once I’ve done some decluttering I feel so amazing!

  • Such simple, yet powerful reminders! I love #2 especially. It’s almost impossible to gain clarity when you feel cluttered. Some people may be able to work (and think) amid clutter. I absolutely cannot. It’s like my brain doesn’t want to function. haha.

    Time for a spring cleaning!
    Thanks.

    • Megan Anne ❄️

Yes! It is amazing how doing something so simple like decluttering can bring you clarity, but it just feels like a new beginning.

  • I have started spring cleaning and it provides a great sense of satisfaction once it is done. It’s a shame it can take so long though

    • Megan Anne ❄️

That’s honestly the only downside to spring cleaning. I will say that I never do all of mine in one day because of this reason. I usually take a few weeks or even a month to be completely done with spring cleaning.

  • Sara Giboney

I love spring cleaning, but I haven’t gotten there yet. Every season, I go through my closet and get rid of clothes that I no longer like or that don’t fit. It always feels so refreshing.

    • Megan Anne ❄️

Yes! Decluttering is my favorite things to do!

  • I’ve never thought about how cleaning out junk actually creates openness in ones mind. I’m in a clean out mode and it feels so good!

    • Megan Anne ❄️

It’s almost a backward thought, but it really does open everything up!

  • Michelle Nietert

I so need to spring clean. I just also need a spring cleaner. 😂I liked your point on clarity.

My mom said something very similar!
